Northern Wetland Dawn

about

This short recording is my first in some time. I had spent the morning at a wetland capturing the sounds of Sora Rail, Grebes and other wetland birds. It was incredible to be there, to listen and find pure awareness within myself.

Back at the studio I was eager to listen and begin the process of editing and turning this recording into a 30 minute beauty. Unfortunately one of my microphones failed, filling most of the captured soundscape with a hum and microphone pops. So, having thought about it, I decided to publish the part that was intact.

It is short but during this uncertain time of the Covid pandemic, I felt it was important to put it out there both as something to escape to for listeners and as a long standing record of the spring of 2021. At the current time we are still in lockdown and seldom have I ever recorded without some sort of human noise, usually aircraft. This morning however, the stillness poured into me, no human noise for 30 minutes. I could not have recorded this at any other time, so its worth putting this out there just for that reason and of course also the beauty of this soundscape.

Recorded, 4.50am, Sunday 30th May 2021, Whitehill, Nova Scotia, Canada.
